Brianna Gonzalez is an Integrative Neuroscience PhD Candidate who is pushing boundaries in the new field of political neuroscience at Stony Brook University. Her interdisciplinary research lies at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, and political science, where she uses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to better understand the neural basis of political cognition. As a CIE scholar, Brianna has been a Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) Fellow, Turner Dissertation Fellow, AGEP Fellow, and AGEP Lighthouse Beacon. After completing her fellowship with AGEP PUI Alliance Partner, Farmingdale State College (FSC), she has now joined the FSC Psychology Department as an Adjunct Professor teaching Biopsychology. Expected to graduate in Spring 2023, Brianna is currently seeking an academic faculty position at an institution that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, where she will be able to share her knowledge and excitement of science education with other passionate scholars.
Why I chose to join AGEP : I originally chose AGEP to learn more about teaching at a predominantly undergraduate institution (PUI), but I quickly learned that I would get much more out of this program than just that. I really appreciated the close mentorship that I was given at Farmingdale State College, and the professional development and teaching pedagogy trainings that were provided through Stony Brook University. As a graduate student at a large research institution, we are mostly trained, advised, and mentored on research - and not much on teaching. The teaching mentorship that I was provided really filled in this gap, and I learned a variety of teaching methods to help me become a better instructor. The AGEP program has opened many new doors for me and I highly recommend it for anyone who may be interested in a faculty career.
