  • Research Description

    Membrane Science and Technology

Highly permeable nanofibrous composite membranes with novel hierarchically tiered structure are developing for extensive separation applications. A variety of nanofibers either from natural resources such as polysaccharide nanofibers or from synthetic materials processed by electrospinning technique are employed to build up the tiered structure of the membrane. Surface chemical modification of fibrous components issues varying special separation and catalytic functions to the membrane. New concept, new structure, as well as new materials are involved which increase the separation efficiency many times higher than that of commercially available counterparts, and offer the possibility for scaling up the production.

    Nanotechnology Based on Natural Materials

We are interested in fabrication and application of nano-scaled materials from universal natural materials, such as cellulose, chitin, protein, and nanoclay. With chemical and mechanical methodologies, novel nano-scaled materials are prepared from natural resources and used for various applications. There are fundamental researches including organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, and material chemistry and physics involved in the projects.
