We are ASCE's Stony Brook Student Chapter. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is America's oldest national engineering society that represents civil engineers from all disciplines and levels. The national ASCE offers free student memberships which offers students networking opportunities and extra resources!
As a chapter, we provide our members with exposure to the different paths they can take within the civil engineering field. We host professionals/alumni as guest speakers from different companies, visit construction sites, introduce professors and their research projects in the department, provide resume reviews and partake in volunteer work.
Ever wondered what it's like to build a canoe made out of concrete or your own steel bridge?
We have two all-year design teams that grant our members hands-on experience with project management, collaboration, and industry standards. Our annual Concrete Canoe project provides the experience of learning how to create a mix design and a structural hull design. The team constructs a 20-foot canoe annually, culminating in a racing competition against other schools in the NY/NJ region. Our annual Steel Bridge team gives students hands-on experience with structural analysis and fabrication of steel members. The team builds their bridge during the allotted time at the annual competition against other schools in the NY/NJ region.
MISSON
The purpose of the Stony Brook chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers is to prepare students for the civil engineering profession through exposure to information and professionals in the civil engineering field. This organization shall encourage professional skills by allowing students to work together productively on career-oriented projects.
