The CEAS Student Internship will provide an insightful experience that allows students
to support their peers while learning more about academic advising and student engagement
in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The internship provides impassioned
students with the opportunity to grow and develop as leaders and professionals, by
improving upon their transferable skills, while also providing assistance to others.
Understanding the daily operations of the CEAS Undergraduate Student Office (USO)
Staying apprised of university policies and deadlines as per the Undergraduate Bulletin
and academic calendar
Assisting with the signing in and triage of students seeking assistance from the CEAS
USO
Assisting with CEAS USO outreach initiatives
Shadowing select advising meetings
Collaborating with student leaders, CEAS staff, and other Stony Brook departments
as well as leverage campus resources to assist in the planning and execution of college-wide
events throughout the year
Interns will be able to provide strong customer service skills in all formats, including
in-person/Phone/Zoom/email interactions with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Interns will shadow various advising/planning meetings with appropriate staff/student
leaders.
Interns will communicate with CEAS departments to garner support and engagement at
various CEAS events/initiatives.
Interns will foster a strong community amongst CEAS students by promoting and engaging
at CEAS events/initiatives.
Interns will be able to successfully triage students seeking CEAS services and provide
necessary referrals, when applicable.
Interns will be able to understand and articulate university policies and deadlines
as per the Undergraduate Bulletin and academic calendar.
Interns will implement outreach initiatives to promote academic success and persistence
in CEAS majors.
Interns will execute a realistic plan to budget for, market, host, and assess college-wide
events in conjunction with CEAS staff and student leaders.
Interns will become knowledgeable of campus resources/departments and how they can
help our students and aid in the planning of CEAS events/initiatives.
Interns will represent themselves, the CEAS, and the university in a professional
and appropriate manner at all times.
Interns will create and adhere to realistic deadlines for completion of all tasks.
Interns will be proactive in correspondence with CEAS staff.
Open to all undergradaute majors
Must be enrolled as a matriculated, full-time undergraduate student at Stony Brook
University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
Must have completed at least 1 fall/spring semester at Stony Brook prior to internship start date
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Strong communication and writing skills
Interns must be available to work a minimum of 5 hours per week and may work a maximum
of 9 hours per week (in person). In addition, all applicants must be available on
Fridays, from 3:30 - 4:25pm during the entire Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

Remuneration:
This is an unpaid internship for undergraduate students only. Successful candidates
will be expected to work approximately 5 - 9 hours, in addition to the mandatory meeting
on Fridays from 3:30 - 4:25pm, for the course of a semester. Tuition remission, health
insurance, and retirement benefits are not included as part of this position.
