The Ph.D. program  is designed to prepare students for advanced research in all branches of theoretical linguistics including syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, phonetics and first and second language acquisition as well as experimental and computational approaches to these areas.  Core research training in these areas is enriched through a wide range of collaborative activities with each other and with students and faculty in other departments, including Psychology, Music, Computer Science, Philosophy, and the Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS). There’s a lot going on here!

The department hosts weekly Brown Bags and Colloquia, an annual Linguistics Lecture Series (emphasizing connections to other disciplines), a Romance Linguistics Lecture Series, and often hosts major international conferences and events such as Annual Meeting on Phonology (AMP),  American International Morphology Meeting (AIMM), Formal Approaches to Slavic Linguistics (FASL),  and North American Conference in Iranian Linguistics (NACIL). The department is known for its collegial and vibrant atmosphere with many formal and informal events and activities supplementing its intellectual life.

Please note: The deadline for PhD admissions is December 1st.
