University Senate Meeting Minutes


November 3, 2025, 3:30-5:00 PM (Hybrid Meeting - Wang Theater & Zoom Meeting)


Meeting called to order by Dr. Brenda Anderson, the University Senate President, at 3:30 PM. A motion to approve the agenda and the minutes from October 6, 2025 carried.

Greetings from Brenda Anderson, University Senate President

-       Welcomed everyone to the University Senate meeting.

-       Announced to join the President and USG on the Academic Mall to Light the Brook at 5:00 pm.

-       Discussed Shared Governance and SUNY Academic Momentum Campaign

Comment:

-       Concerns raised about AI usage in courses, and Victoria Pilato mentioned that SCEDIT is working on guidelines for the Senate.

-       B. Kube - East campus President

-       The application portal for the Individual Development Awards (IDA) will close on November 14 at 5pm.

-       Provided updates on UUP negotiations, resolutions passed at the delegate assembly, and upcoming events.

New Business:

  1. Announcement of Candidates for University Senate President:
    Michael Boerner was announced as the candidate for University Senate President position.
    The University Senate will accept candidacies for this position until December 1, 2025.
  2. SUNY Faculty Senate Fall Plenary Report was presented by Michael Boerner.
  3. University Environment Committee Report on Pedestrian and Bike Access from Stony Brook University to the East, presented by Christopher Percival:
    Presention on pedestrian and bike access, focusing on improving safety and connectivity between East and West Campus, particularly around Health Sciences Drive. The committee proposed several improvements to enhance cycling and walking routes.
