Christopher Eagler (MA, 2023)
Christopher Eagler was born and raised on Long Island, NY. Spending his early years crabbing and fishing along the coast, he found an interest in the natural world and obtained his undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Marine Science from Stony Brook University. While in the Marine Conservation and Policy (MCP) program, Christopher interned with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, examining population trends over the past two decades for the NYS endangered piping plover. Through data analysis, Christopher created comprehensive graphs and tables to better understand this threatened population over time. His time with the MCP program made him feel like he had a “seat at the table”, and he felt closely connected to marine sciences on Long Island. Following graduation, Christopher is now working as an environmental analyst for the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), and is contracted by the NYSDEC Division of Water. Christopher is responsible for building partnerships with and connecting municipalities and organizations to further efforts on water quality conservation. Christopher assesses policies related to the Long Island Sound Study (LISS) Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan, and assists in project funding. His role aims to expand the collaboration between the LISS and stakeholder groups to protect the Sound. Christopher’s daily tasks include preparing grant proposals and progress reports, attending protection committee meetings, and facilitating connections as a co-chair of the LISS Watersheds and Embayments Work Group. Today, Christopher spends his free moments exploring the ocean through surfing.
