Christine Suter (MA, 2020)
Christine grew up in Long Island and graduated in 2020 from the Marine Conservation and Policy program at Stony Brook University after completing her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz. During her time in the one year MCP program she interned with the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society (AMSEAS) and analyzed three years worth of necropsy data to find trends in debris ingestion and entanglement among sea turtles in New York. She found many of the courses at Stony Brook University such as Phytoplankton Ecology and Long Island Marine Habitats valuable for her internships and career.
After graduating she began working as the Assistant Director of Friends of the Bay, an environmental nonprofit in Oyster Bay, NY focused on protecting the waters of Oyster Bay. Her day to day work varied from water quality monitoring to beach cleanups, data entry, and coordinating events with staff, schools, and volunteers. She also focused on writing grants to support projects within the nonprofit organization.
In February, 2024 Christine was named Executive Director of Friends of the Bay and she is continuing to protect our local waters in her new role.
