Stephanie Kelton

Interim Dean of the School of Communication and Journalism
Stephanie Kelton was appointed interim dean of the School of Communications and Journalism effective September 8, 2025. Kelton joined Stony Brook in 2017 as professor of economics and public policy. She was previously chair of the department of economics at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. 

Kelton holds Visiting Professorships at The New School for Social Research, the University of Ljubljana, and the University of Torrens. She is a regular commentator on national radio and broadcast television and author of The New York Times bestseller, The Deficit Myth. In addition to her many academic publications, she has been a contributor at ˆ and has written for The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, U.S. News & World Report, CNN, and others.

Kelton holds a BS degree in business administration and economics from California State University, Sacramento, an M.Phil in economics from Cambridge University, and a Ph.D. in economics from The New School for Social Research.
