Todd Griffin

Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs/Vice President for Clinical Services
Todd Griffin is Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Vice President for Clinical Services, and Professor and Chair for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Stony Brook Medicine.

Born and raised on Long Island in Sayville, Griffin did his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester before returning to Long Island where he received his medical degree from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook. Griffin has also completed a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare. After medical school, he completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stony Brook Medicine. He then went on to serve as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy for three years before returning to Stony Brook in 2000.

Prior to being Chair, Griffin held numerous institutional positions but most notable served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Hospital from 2009 to 2013. Clinically, Griffin specializes in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Gyn Surgery (MIGS) and he was instrumental in the development of robotic surgery at Stony Brook.  He is a former Residency Program Director, Clerkship Director and Fellowship Director for MIGS. He has received a number of different local and national awards, most notably he was the recipient of Stony Brook University School of Medicine’s highest teaching award, the Aesculapius Award as well as the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service.

Nationally, Griffin has served as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology since 2007 and he is an Executive Board Member for the both the Council of University Chairs in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CUCOG) and the Society of Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology (SASGOG).  Dr. Griffin recently received a $1.5M philanthropic grant to develop a Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Center which has led to the multidisciplinary approach to both the clinical care and research for this complex disorder.  He is married to Jennifer Griffin, a Stony Brook Medicine Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Women’s Health and has three children; Spencer (21), Oliver (16) and Amelia (14).
