[The Center for Korean Studies Awarded Major Grant to Launch New M.A. Track in Korean Humanism]

The Center for Korean Studies has been awarded a prestigious five-year grant from the Academy of Korean Studies to establish a new M.A. track in Korean Humanism. This innovative program is designed to train the next generation of Korean Studies scholars with the rare and essential ability to read pre-modern primary sources written in Literary Sinitic (Hanmun)—the lingua franca of scholarship and governance in East Asia for centuries.

By equipping students with this critical skill, the program will open new pathways for original research, deeper cultural understanding, and meaningful contributions to the global field of Korean Studies.

The program will be directed by Dr. Hongkyung Kim, who is actively working to recruit the inaugural cohort of students, beginning in Fall 2026. Full tuition scholarships for selected students will be available. Further details about admissions and curriculum will be announced soon.
