Study Abroad Advocacy Training

Study Abroad Advocacy Training

Study Abroad hosted its first Study Abroad Advocacy Training on November 29. With over 30 advisors, department administrators and directors in attendance, the Study Abroad team discussed the benefits, accessibility, and wide variety of offerings through study abroad experiences available to Stony Brook students.

As reported by the President's Council of Student Advisors (COSA), nearly all study abroad programs available through Stony Brook University are either close to, or much less expensive than the average cost of studying here on campus for a semester, inclusive of travel. The Financial Aid office was present at Advocacy Training to discuss how financial aid applies to students who study abroad.

In a post-workshop assessment survey, those in attendance found the workshop extremely beneficial in providing a better understanding of how study abroad works, the broad range of program offerings, and how financially accessible it can be.

Those in attendance received Study Abroad apparel and desktop items, to serve as a reminder to advocate for Study Abroad. Based on the success of the event, we will host Study Abroad Advocacy Training each semester for any interested to attend and learn more about the opportunities available to students.
