Dylan Jones
Interests: The culture and art of colonial expansion, the American West, leftist third parties, cultural icons in popular movements, and mass violence in Portuguese colonial Africa.
I am interested in how culture and art mobilize people to action. My fields are primarily the American West and Luso-Africa, though I look to consider these two geographically distinct areas as colonial projects of similarly eager empires. My prior research has focused on artist John Mulvany, sportsmen conservationist movements in Colorado in the late 19th century, and the Guinea-Bissau War of Independence. I am currently researching mass violence historiography as it relates to presentism, as well as other potential American and Luso-African connections.
