Lecturer Reappointments

  • The reappointment process for full-time Lecturers is initiated by the Provost's Office. Interfolio cases are created and then sent to the reappointing unit.
  • The reappointment process for part-time Lecturers is handled by the reappointing unit. At the moment, this process takes place out of the Interfolio system.

Appointment Term

Full-time Lecturers
  • The default term for full-time Lecturers is expected to be two years. All initial appointments as well as reappointments are expected to be for two years. However, one year term  may be required in cases where two-year terms are not operationally feasible. For instance, one year reappointments will be necessary in cases of replacement appointments shorter than two years, budgetary constraints, special programs like student success lecturers initiative, etc.
  • A full-time Lecturer who has completed six years of continuous service may be reappointed for a three-year term with justification based upon teaching excellence. In addition to the standard package, case files for three-year reappointments must include a faculty vote. The Chair's Memo in support of reappointment should include justification for the three-year term.
Part-time Lecturers
  • The normal term for part-time Lecturers is one year. This can be extended to two years upon request.

Reappointment Materials

Full-time Lecturers

For full-time lecturer reappointments, once the reappointing unit receives the created Interfolio case, the following materials need to be completed through the Interfolio system.

Candidate's materials:

  • Current CV
  • Candidate's teaching statement

Academic unit's materials:

  • Chair's Memo
  • Lecturer Reappointment Form (to be filled out in Interfolio)
  • Upcoming Courses and Anticipated Enrollment Form (to be filled out in Interfolio)
  • Reappointment Faculty Vote  (if applicable, see above)
  • Dean's Endorsement

The list of previously instructed courses and course evaluations where required (for reappointments that follow six years of continuous service, and every six years subsequently, or for reappointments for a term of more than two years) are uploaded to Interfolio cases directly from the data warehouse at the time of creation of cases.

Please see the "Provost Office - Reappointment for Full-time Lecturer" template in the RPT module of Interfolio for further details about the requirements of the reappointment process.

Part-time Lecturers

For part-time lecturer reappointments the process is handled by the reappointing unit out of the Interfolio system and it usually requires a Peoplesoft Change Form and the Part-Time Assignment Form. The materials are sent to provost_reappointments@stonybrook.edu.
