Prof. Mikhail Dorojevets Receives IARPA Contract for Cyber Security Research

February 2, 2017

Mikhail Dorojevets

Prof. Mikhail Dorojevets, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was awarded a contract related to cyber security from the Office of Director of National Intelligence, IARPA. It is the first ever IARPA contract awarded to Stony Brook University.

Prof. Dorojevets's research interests include energy-efficient superconductor computing, cyber security, cryptography, parallel computer architectures, and all aspects of processor and circuit design. In 2011, Prof. Dorojevets (in collaboration with HYPRES) demonstrated a 20 GHz arithmetic-logic unit, the world's fastest.

Mikhail Dorojevets received his M.S. degree in Physics and Electronic Engineering from the Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow in 1982. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1988. From 1982 to 1995, he was a principal designer in several projects on high-performance systems design for Russian science, defense, and industry.  In 1988, he received the Outstanding Achievement Diploma jointly awarded by the USSR Academy of Sciences, and the USSR State Committee on Science and Technology for his pioneer work on MARS-M, the first computer with simultaneous multithreading. Since 1996, he has been an Assistant and (since 2000) an Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at Stony Brook University. His research interests include energy-efficient superconductor computing, cyber security, cryptography, parallel computer architectures, and all aspects of processor and circuit design. Mikhail Dorojevets's research work has been funded by NSF, NASA, NSA, IARPA, and US Army Research Office. He worked as consultant to US federal agencies, government labs, and industrial corporations, including Sony Electronics and Northrop-Grumman.
