Dr. Sung-Gheel Jang

Dr. Sung-Gheel (Gil) Jang is the director of the Geospatial Center in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University. He has expertise in spatial data analytics of open data and crowdsourced data, mapping urban coastal systems, and developing a spatially explicit index system. Dr. Jang has worked on spatial data analytics to examine distributional aspects of public services by using both government big data and developed a spatio-temporal index for marine resource managers and an inequity framework in the clean energy transition to quantify the clean energy inequity potential in the U.S. In collaboration with the CEWIT researchers, he is currently working on the development of the Clean Energy Equity Index for New York State and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supported by the IBM Sustainability Accelerator.
