Christopher Lange

Chris LangeChristopher Lange is the Engineering Manager of the Center of Excellence in Wireless Information Technology (CEWIT) and a graduate student pursuing an M.B.A. within the College of Business at Stony Brook University. Chris is also serving as the Interim Project Manager at Stony Brook University Economic Development for CEWIT. Chris organized the first “IoT and Microservices” Hackathon for Stony Brook University in collaboration with CEWIT Industry partners and Major League Hacking. Over 130 students attended the inaugural event, and this event has blossomed into an annual Hackathon resulting in extensive media coverage and prestige for both Stony Brook University and CEWIT. Chris has achieved certification for AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Developer, and Solutions Architect at the associate level, obtained a Google Cloud skill badge for their newly created Introduction to Generative AI course, and is an IBM Enterprise Design Thinking Practitioner.

Chris graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. During his undergraduate research at university Chris worked with Dr. Wong-Ma on the Stony Brook Smart Transit management system which was utilized by 20,000 students. Chris’ research area of focus was on backend GPS services, in particular designing open source hardware and software solutions that would streamline real time data collection and service integration, predictive analytics, and infrastructure scalability. The research project involved the creation of a cross platform mobile application, a single page web application, as well as a scalable REST API that serviced all clients. Following this research, Chris worked as a research assistant for the SUNY-DOH Medicaid Initiative, creating a learning management system for the New York Prescriber Education program. Chris designed and was the lead developer of the AWS Cloud solution for this platform, reducing static web hosting costs while increasing site reliability, uptime, and security. Working with a team of developers on this project, Chris implemented a continuous integration and delivery pipeline and introduced the team to version control and unit testing for reliability for software deployments, leading to two fold increase in code coverage and a shrinking in response to issue time from a month to a 'pushed to main’ resolution within a week.

At CEWIT, Chris facilitates strategic collaborations with external partners to capitalize on emerging business opportunities, with a particular focus on those engaged in workforce development. He provides technical leadership and oversight to multiple teams of programmers and analysts in the development and implementation of software applications and systems. He works closely with researchers associated with the Center to comprehend their project needs, research goals, and effectively translate them into detailed technical specifications for software development. Throughout this process he oversees the development of project plans, timelines, budgets, and provides guidance and support to project managers and software development teams to ensure that projects are executed successfully. He manages the full software development life cycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Chris believes in hands-on leadership, providing impact with contributions to the codebase while also providing technical guidance and mentorship to team members to support their own personal development.
