Dr. Craig Markson is a Lecturer and Educational Leadership Program Graduate Coordinator with the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University. He is responsible for off-campus graduate programs that meet the professional development needs of in-service K-12 teachers. Dr. Markson has served on the Oceanside, Port Washington, Long Beach, Massapequa (M-TRACT) Wantagh-Seaford, South Country, South Huntington, Middle Country and Mid-East Suffolk NYS Teacher Center Policy Boards. Additionally, he serves on the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Accreditation for Growth Council.

Dr. Markson earned his EdD from Dowling College. His dissertation, Modes of instruction for K-12 school leadership candidate coursework and internship preparation in the ISLLC standards and candidate gender and candidate scores on New York State licensure assessments, was published in 2013. Additionally, Dr. Markson has co-authored the following studies: "Which Matters Most? Perceptions of Family Income or Parental Education on Academic Achievement" (Presented at The Hawaii International Conference on Education and The International Business and Economy Conference, January 2012); “Holding the Test Maker Accountable: The ISLLC Standards and the New York State School Building Leadership Licensure Assessments”, Long Island Education Review (Fall 2013, Volume 12, Issue 2); and "Continuing to Hold the Test Maker Accountable: The ISLLC Standards and the New York State School District Leadership Licensure Assessments", Journal for Leadership and Instruction (Fall 2014, Volume 13, Issue 2). His most recent publication was “The Relationships Between K-12 School Leadership Candidates’ Teaching Experience, Age, Internship Usefulness Rating, and Performance on the New York State School Leadership Licensure Assessments”, The New York Academy of Public Education, (May 2015, Issue 4).

Dr. Markson teaches EDL 595 (Educational Leadership Research Project Seminar). His former students have placed first and second for best research paper at the 2014 Educational Leadership Research Fair at Stony Brook University. At the 2015 Educational Leadership Research Fair, his students took first, second, and third place. Dr. Markson's research interests include the efficacy of online learning in the context of school leadership preparation, State assessments, ISLLC Standards, gender and school leadership, teacher evaluations, and the relationships among poverty and academic achievement.
