Dr. Xiaolan Huang, Research Scientist
Dr. Xiaolan Huang serves as a Research Scientist with the Center and has a diverse background in soil
ecology, environmental chemistry, and oceanography. He holds a Master's degree from
Nanjing Agricultural University and a PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,
and has completed postdoctoral training at the University of Miami. Throughout his
career, Dr. Huang has worked at several prominent research institutions including
the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) and the Center for
Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response at the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA).
Dr. Huang's research is centered on the biogeochemistry of soil, water, plants, and
solid waste, with a particular emphasis on phosphorus. He has made seminal contributions
to the field through his observations of catalytic processes in aged inorganic iron
solutions and iron oxide nanomaterials in aqueous environments. These observations
have led to a novel hypothesis on the inorganic enzyme, which has important implications
for organic phosphorus transformation in the environment and the study of biocatalysts
and the evolution of early life.
In addition to his research, Dr. Huang is actively involved in the environmental science
community, serving as a peer reviewer for 20 international journals. His interdisciplinary
background and commitment to the field make him a valuable member of the scientific
community.
