Announcing CVB's New Chief Operations Officer: Shin Shin Hsia
We are pleased to announce that Shin Shin Hsia (Xīn Xīn Xià - she/her) will become Centre ValBio’s next Chief Operations Officer. Shin Shin is currently working in her own management consultancy in Seattle, Washington, where she consults for statewide and nationally based BIPOC led and advocacy non-profits. In Shin Shin, we have a leader who comes to the table with a strong track record and a decade of experience in operations, HR, and financial best practices rooted in collaboration and teamwork. She has a background in wildlife biology, human resources, organizational development and finance management. In her new role, she will be the liaison between ICTE, Stony Brook, and the CVB research station. She will oversee aspects of the academic mission with a focus on supporting research, scholarship, creative endeavors, as well as community impact and engagement. She will be a key player in staff development and progress.
Academically, Shin Shin received her Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Conservation Biology at University of Washington, Seattle, and earned a certificate in Human Resources Management from UW in 2017. As the chief operating officer at CVB, Shin Shin will be responsible for oversight of the finance and administration and will have oversight of operations, including administrative management, student and research programs, and coordinating community programs. The CVB Senior Staff will report to her, and she will also work collaboratively with them.
Shin Shin visited CVB in 2005 as a study abroad student and returned in 2007 to manage logistics and finances for a MacArthur Fellows tour. Her skillset and familiarity with Madagascar and CVB will help us meet our ambitious goals around research and academic excellence, and will be a stalwart supporter of our students, staff, and local communities. She will help us find additional ways to strategically elevate our research, and scholarship and better ways to organize and manage our team.
This is an exciting time for CVB, and we are fortunate to have Shin Shin join us in Ranomafana this Fall to lead CVB into a new era. Please join us in welcoming her!
