Gianna Montante '25
BA Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, minor in Health, Medicine and Society
On her Major:
I chose my areas of study because I wanted to understand the unique experiences that
shape health outcomes across patient demographics. By combining these courses with
my pre-medical work, I gained a holistic perspective that strengthened my ability
to become a compassionate physician.
Favorite class:
My favorite classes were Human Anatomy & Physiology (HAN 200 & 202), Sociology of
Human Reproduction (SOC 340) and AIDS, Race, and Gender in the Black Community (AFS
381). I enjoyed these classes because they connected natural science to healthcare.
Specifically in SOC 340 and AFS 381, I learned about the impact of social determinants
on the quality of care and health outcomes.
Clubs/organizations:
I worked at the Center for Prevention and Outreach as a Mental Health and Suicide
Prevention intern during my junior year and as the Mindful Moments Coordinator during
my senior year. Through my work, I was able to advocate for mental health care, connect
students with resources, and educate them on preventative care techniques. I’m also
an associate member for the New York Birth Control Access Project where we work with
New York State legislators to expand birth control access on college campuses and
in pharmacies.
Plans for post-graduation:
I will be attending medical school at the Renaissance School of Medicine. I’m currently
interested in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
Advice for future Seawolves:
Always get up one more time than you fall down! Find ways to stay organized, motivated,
and focused. Success is no accident.
