Danielle Henry '25
English and Psychology double major; English Teacher Preparation
Magna Cum Laude
On her major:
I want to become a high school English teacher, so the methods classes, student teaching, and path to NYS certification were a perfect fit for me. I felt like psychology and the classes I took related to childhood and adolescent psychology were a perfect supplement for an aspiring teacher to have a background in.
Interests and accomplishments:
Accomplishments I am proud of are that I am graduating with Magna Cum Laude Honors distinction and that I was a resident assistant on campus for three out of four of my undergraduate years. My role as an RA helped me grow as a professional by allowing me the space to work on my leadership skills, time management, organizational skills, contribute to the inclusivity of our campus community, and I have made countless lifelong friendships. I am also the small business owner of "Danielle's Designs" (Instagram: @danielles_designs16) and I have tabled and showcased my handmade crochet stuffed animals with a wide variety of on-campus clubs and organizations.
Plans for post-graduation:
My post-graduate plans are to pursue a master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) while working full time as an English teacher somewhere on Long Island.
Advice for future Seawolves:
Get involved in every single thing you possibly can. Find your wolf pack! Get the most out of your experience by trying new things, joining clubs, attending on-campus events, and putting yourself out there. These four years will fly by, so make the most of it by taking advantage of every single opportunity that Stony Brook has to offer, because the opportunities here are truly limitless.
Parting thoughts:
To every professor, supervisor, and friend that I have made at Stony Brook: I am endlessly grateful for the support you have given me, and I couldn't have accomplished nearly as much as I have without your unwavering support. I will forever cherish the time I spent at Stony Brook. Thank you for the support, growth, memories, lessons, and laughs.
