On Stony Brook:
I chose Stony Brook because of its excellent academic programs, particularly in the
sciences as well as the location, which is close to my family and friends since I’m
from Deer Park. I was also impressed by the opportunities for research and hands-on
experience that was available to students.
On her major:
I chose to major in chemistry because the subject made a great impact on me in high
school and in my first year of college.
Favorite class:
One of my favorite classes was Organic Chemistry, both the lecture and laboratory
components. I enjoyed it because it taught me valuable laboratory techniques that
I continue to use in my research. The courses were challenging but rewarding, as I
became an Organic Chemistry teaching assistant. I would like to thank Dr. Katsamanis
for giving me this opportunity.
Greatest achievement:
My greatest achievement has been the research I conducted at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
I studied the separation of medical isotopes by radionuclide generators. I was fortunately
given the chance to co-author a published paper with my mentor and post-doc.
Awards & Accolades:
I am honored to say that I received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence
in the 2019-2020 academic year. This semester, I will graduate with an honors distinction
of Cum Laude and I have been on the Dean’s List for every semester.
Career aspirations:
I plan on continuing my research at the Stony Brook Cancer Center, where I am utilizing
a xenograft mouse model for host-guest pretargeted positron emission tomography. I
am deciding between working towards a PhD in pharmacology or applying to pharmacy
school to pursue a PharmD.
Favorite SBU memory:
My favorite SBU memory was studying abroad in Ireland and England the summer of 2019.
It was an incredible, unforgettable experience that allowed me to immerse myself in
new cultures, meet new people, and gain a global perspective on my studies. Overall, I am grateful for my time at Stony Brook and the opportunities it has provided
me. I am excited to see where my degree takes me and look forward to making a positive
impact in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry.
