2024 Department Retreat
The 2024 Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology retreat was held at the end of May in Port Jefferson at the beautiful Port Jefferson Country Club. The event was beautifully organized by Dr. Stuti Sharma, an Assistant Professor in the department, and the department administrative staff. There was a full day of fun, food, and scientific presentations.

Talks were given by the three new faculty members who joined the department in the last year to introduce their research to department members. Dr. Benjamin Lin started off the day with "New Ways to Move Forward: Insights into Cortical-Flow Driven Cell Migration, followed by Dr. Jonathan Nelson's talk "Genomic Frenemies: Understanding the Dynamic Regulation of a Mutualistic Retrotransposon", and concluding with Dr. Kathryn Gunn's talk "Regulation of Lipases through Oligomerization." Other faculty talks were given by Dr. Qun Liu, an adjunct professor in the department who is based at Brookhaven National Lab, Dr. Dada Pisconti, and Dr. Gerald Thomsen.

Two trainees were also selected for oral presentations - Dr. Thiago Rodriques, who is a postdoctoral fellow in the Karzai Lab and Lingshuang Wu a graduate student in the Airola Lab. The day concluded with a wonderful poster session full of exciting research and some refreshments.
We especially want to say congratulations to this year's poster award winners: Lingshuang Wu from the Airola Lab and Mariella Quispe-Carbajal from the Glynn Lab!!
