Our Voices - A Visual Rally

Stony Brook University and the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies condemn all racially motivated attacks and hate crimes against Asian Americans and stand by our AAPI community members during this time. The recent surge of Anti-Asian discrimination and violence has alarmed Asian Americans and allies alike. To raise awareness against such acts of racism and discrimination on campus, the Department is asking for video testimonies from Stony Brook students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and families.

If you identify as Asian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander and have experienced any type (verbal or physical) of racially targeted assault or violence, we ask that you share your experience in a 5-second video clip with a short statement, such as “I have been assaulted (alternately: harassed, discriminated against) due to my racial identity.” If you have not had such experience or are not AAPI but want to support this effort, you may record a 5-second testimony voicing your support for the AAPI community by making a short statement, such as “I stand with the Stony Brook AAPI community”, or “End all hate crimes”. The Department will be accepting these contributions until Tuesday, April 27.

Your video response, along with others', will be part of a visual rally against anti-AAPI racism and will be shared at a public forum on May 5.  The forum will be presented by the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies.
