Sammy Chu
Sammy Chu serves as the CEO of Edgewise Energy, a New York-based clean energy development
firm, and as President of Caltech Electric, an IBEW-signatory electrical contracting
firm. Edgewise Energy has developed and manages one of the largest community distributed
generation projects in New York under the Community Power Long Island banner, saving
Long Islanders over $100,000 monthly on their electric bills while providing significant
climate benefits. The company is currently focused on developing battery energy storage
systems in Long Island and New York City.
Chu previously served in the administration of Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone as Chief of Staff and as Commissioner of the county’s Department of Labor, Licensing & Consumer Affairs. He was the lead county official in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, responsible for coordinating response and recovery efforts.
Chu is a board member for several nonprofit organizations, including the New York League of Conservation Voters and the EAC Network. He also serves as chair of the Long Island chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. Additionally, Chu is a trustee of Molloy University and was appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
In his free time, Sammy trains and competes as a powerlifter. He is a former U.S. Powerlifting Association masters national champion and holds world, national, and state records in his competitive class.
